This test aims to evaluate your fluency as well as your level of command in the English language.
You will need to sit in the test for about 24 minutes as this will be done in pairs.
The overall mark for the SPM Paper 3 test is 24
The breakdown of the test:
Part 1 – Interview
You’ll be asked a general question. You’ll need to answer 4 simple questions within 3-4 minutes.
There will be 2 phases, where at the first phase, the question can be as simple as, “What is your name?” or any two questions that require you to introduce yourself. For the second phase, the examiner might ask another 2 questions about yourself or your family.
Part 2 – Individual long turn
You’ll receive a random booklet for any topics and there will be few questions to answer.
The assessor will give you 20 seconds to prepare. You need to answer the questions within 1 minute.
Part 3 – Discussion
The last part is where you’ll need to make a conversation with your partner for 3 minutes.
For the first 2 minutes, you’ll need to have a discussion with your partner.
Another 1 minute to make your stand or state a conclusion.
Another 2 minutes for Further Discussion about the related topic.
What to focus in Part 1?
Giving Factual information about self
Expressing opinions
Explaining and giving reasons
Talk about past experiences as well as future plans.
Grammar focus : present simple / future simple / adverbs of frequency
Vocabulary focus : daily routines, hobbies, transport, school life, family
What to focus in Part 2?
Giving information about past / present / future experience
Expressing opinions and the most important is justify the opinions given.
Explaining and giving reasons
Talk about people around you, places, events and certain situations.
Grammar focus : present and past tense, expressions for likes and dislikes, giving reasons for the opinions
Vocabulary focus : words for describing people, places, situations; words to express feelings and opinions.
What to focus in Part 3?
Negotiating agreement
Exchanging information and opinions
Justifying opinions and suggestions
Making decisions or suggestions.
Grammar focus : present simple / future simple
Vocabulary focus : expressions to agree and disagree, turn-taking, questioning skills (asking questions)
Fluency means You can speak smoothly, without stopping or hesitating.
To improve your fluency, you need to work on your physical and mental.
