KERIAN EDUTECH 2.0 - MINECRAFT EDUCATION CHALLENGE

The Minecraft Education Challenge: Renewable Cities of Tomorrow is a digital proving ground where creativity meets global responsibility. This competition is a core feature of the Kerian EduTech 2.0 initiative, proudly organized by SMK Kubang Kerian.

As part of the EduTech 2.0 competition series, this event invites students to go beyond standard gameplay and become the architects of a sustainable future. Building on the foundation of blending fun with innovation, this year's challenge focuses on Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living, pushing participants to align their digital creations with real-world STEM and environmental goals.

The Kerian EduTech 2.0: Renewable Cities of Tomorrow challenge inspires students to master STEM and sustainable innovation. Participants collaborate to build eco-friendly cities in Minecraft, fostering critical thinking and digital literacy while exploring renewable energy solutions for a greener future.

Competition Details

Working in teams of 2 to 4, students will design and build a sustainable urban vision in Minecraft Education Edition based on the theme ‘Renewable Cities of Tomorrow.’ Participants must integrate renewable energy solutions and produce a walkthrough video explaining their city’s features and its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The Kerian EduTech 2.0 competition is open to secondary school students who are ready to showcase their innovation and technical skills. Participants are divided into 3 competitive categories:

Category A: Students aged 10 – 12 years old.
Category B: Students aged 13 – 15 years old.
Category C: Students aged 16 – 17 years old.

This competition aims to foster advanced problem-solving, digital innovation, and environmental awareness, empowering youth to design the sustainable landscapes of the future.

Terms and Conditions: Kerian EduTech 2.0

1. Competition Theme

Official Theme: Renewable Cities of Tomorrow Participants are tasked with envisioning and building a future-ready urban environment that prioritizes green energy, sustainability, and technological innovation.

2. Eligibility and Categories

The competition is open to all secondary school students under the following categories:

Category A: Students aged 10 – 12 years old.
Category B: Students aged 13 – 15 years old.
Category C: Students aged 16 – 17 years old.

3. Minecraft Education Project Specifications (Karya Minecraft Edu)

To ensure a high-quality submission, projects must adhere to the following technical and creative standards:

Official Template: All builds must be executed within the official Minecraft world template provided by the organizers.
Interactive Storytelling: The world should not just be a static build. It must be "alive." Participants may use:
- NPCs (Non-Player Characters): To guide the judges and explain specific zones of the city.
- Signboards & Posters: To label innovations and provide technical data.
Functional Innovation: Judges will look for functional "green" systems (e.g., using Redstone to simulate renewable energy grids, waste management systems, or automated vertical farms).
Platform Integrity: Only Minecraft Education Edition is permitted. Projects built in Java or Bedrock editions will be automatically disqualified.

4. The SDG Challenge

The city must demonstrate a clear integration of innovations addressing at least three (3) of the following six Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy (e.g., Wind farms, Solar arrays).
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities (e.g., Green public transport, Eco-housing).
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production (e.g., Recycling plants, Circular economy).
SDG 13: Climate Action (e.g., Carbon capture zones, Flood defenses).
SDG 14: Life Below Water (e.g., Ocean cleaning systems, Coral reef restoration).
SDG 15: Life on Land (e.g., Wildlife corridors, Reforestation efforts).

5. Submission Requirements

Team Composition: Teams must consist of a minimum of 2 members and a maximum of 4 members.
Video Walkthrough:
- Duration: 2 – 3 minutes.
- Content: Must showcase the build and narrate the technical aspects of the innovations.
- Technical: Must include subtitles/captions (English) and be uploaded to YouTube as a "Public" or "Unlisted" video.
Project File: Teams must export and submit their world as a .mcworld file via the official submission form.

6. Important Dates & Decisions

Deadline: 14 May, 2026, by 11:59 PM.
Selection: Only successful shortlisted teams will be contacted for further evaluation.
