Why is Chemistry a compulsory subject to be enrolled in each Matriculation science stream?
Chemistry is acknowledged as a pre-requisite subject for all bachelor science degrees. Thus, all Matriculation science stream’s students are required to take Chemistry.
Are there any changes in the chemistry syllabus for both semester in the upcoming year?
There are no changes that has been made towards the chemistry curriculum specification for both semester in the upcoming academic year 20/21.
How will the online/physical continuous assessment be evaluated especially for the SES students moving onto SDS programme who have accumulated marks since first semester until 4th semester?
The evaluation for both upcoming SDS students and current SES students who will be moving onto the SDS programme are both similar and consistent. The breakdown of the final score remains at 60% for continuous assessments and 40% of final examination. The assessments for the 1st semester in the upcoming academic year will be conducted online completely.
Are chemistry notes and tutorial materials be provided in the upcoming semester?
Yes, the learning materials which include lecture notes, tutorial handouts, solution guide module , and past year questions for the upcoming semester will be virtually accessible and can be downloaded from Chemistry’s google site. In addition, lecture videos and chemistry lab demonstration videos can be browsed by students on the Unit Kimia KMPk YouTube Channel.
What is the format of the online chemistry final examination for semester 1?
The format of the online chemistry final examination for semester 1 will be conducted fully online-based until further notice of approval for physical assessments to be conducted when students are permissible to be in Matriculation. The final examination will also be regulated under strict SOP monitoring by the Matriculation in order to ensure guaranteed validity and equivalence in the evaluation process.
What are the modes of learning for chemistry in the upcoming semester?
The modes of learning for chemistry are lecture, tutorial classes and practical lab. Lectures are independent self-learning by the students according to schedule while tutorials and practical labs are conducted face to face with assigned lecturers and also through various online learning platforms that suits both students and lecturers.
How do we contact our respective chemistry lecturers for semester 1?
There are various ways for medium of communication that suits both lecturers and students to communicate online through social media such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, TikTok, Google Classrooms and Facebook. You can easily search for your respective chemistry lecturer’s contact details from the Chemistry google sites.
Why is it that chemistry has 5 hours of credit hours in a week?
This is because the allocation time of face-to-face student’s learning time is 5 hours in a week which consists of 1 hour of lecture, 3 hours of tutorials and 1 hour of practical labs. (Exceptional 2 hours of face-to-face in academic schedule)
Does the subject of chemistry requires any extra tools or devices that would be needed for physical classes once students are permitted to be in Matriculation?
For example: Lab coat, a specific calculator, etc.
It is only necessary that students bring the common stationery used for the educational classroom. Lab coat will be provided to upcoming students because it has been included in the student’s tuition fees except for previous SES students moving onto the SDS program as they have received it prior to the start of the upcoming semester. As for calculators, students may use the common scientific calculator used during SPM.
How many branches of Chemistry are studied at the Matriculation level?
The branches of chemistry studied at the Matriculation level are only organic and physical chemistry.
