Biology Lab Report Write-up Format
The following is the format students need to follow for lab report.
TITLE OF EXPERIMENT:
Write the title of the experiment done.
OBJECTIVE:
The objective is a concise statement outlining the purpose of the experiment. Write the objective of the experiment done.
INTRODUCTION:
In this section of report, students should write about background information that relates to the lab concepts. DO NOT simply copy the introduction on lab instruction manual. Students may select some facts to incorporate from the provided information, but overall it should be a summary of the topic in students’ own words. Then, purpose of the lab should be clearly stated in the introduction. A testable hypothesis should be included (if any). Write the hypothesis in the form of a statement. Hypothesis used in quantitative research studies is for educated guess or prediction about the relationship between two variables.
MATERIAL AND APPARATUS:
List equipment and material used in experiment. Write the name and amount of each materials used.
PROCEDURE:
Write step by step description of procedure in passive voice.
RESULT/OBSERVATION:
Record the data that is required at each step of the experiment. This section will include all data collected in the form of calculation, charts, table, drawing, diagram or graph to explain or demonstrate the observation in the lab. Be sure that graph, table, figure and diagram completely and properly labelled with complete title.
DISCUSSION:
Explain the data or observation in word. Explain/distinguish result with theory/hypothesis. Discuss the implication of the result.
CONCLUSION:
Summarise the finding in relationship of hypothesis. Conclusion must be addressed or answered the objectives written.
REFERENCE:
Write at least two (2) references which written according to APA system.
