Accomplishments:
Chatted with other SIDL participants about what's worked for them when they've attended conferences.
Created an Adobe Spark short film: "Media Literacy Conference Fun"--- it can be posted on Facebook, Twitter, and the conference website.
Collaborated with 2 Tier 1 participants who agreed to be on the Board and ended up making the conference much better!
Learned a bit more about the new Google Sites.
Created a solid draft of the program -- who's presenting.
Reviewed the Lessons Learned doc from last year and adapted them for this year's conference.
Distributed NRMLC publicity postcards.
Sought more presenters -- and got 4 from last year.
Design some marketing materials (Welcome, Registration, Master).
Downloaded Zoey's pictures and used some of them to create a marketing video titled, "What's It Like to Attend a Media Literacy Conference?"
Submitted marketing info to NAMLE.
Located 1 Special Rapporteur to chronicle each day of the conference. Pam = Friday, me = Saturday.
Created a Get Involved page on the conference website.
Created a bank of daily social media posts for the NRMLC that I can publish periodically.
Made a plan for seeking more presenters for Saturday: academics, advocates, scholars, researchers, politicians. Each board member agreed to use her/ his network to make contact and spread the word.
Decided that lunch the 2 morning opening remark sessions will serve as networking opportunities, as will lunch, which will be an optional networking modeled after the SIDL's "birds of a feather" model.
Met with most of the board (absent: Dion, Will) to discuss program and ancillary elements around programming.
Board members agreed to do a short deconstruction activity or summarizer as part of the opening remarks for one of the two days. These will set the tone for the day to come.
Consulted with board of directors on the draft program in person or on Zoom to set the first final framework.
Design Studio Goals: Prep for the 2019 Northeast Regional Media Literacy Conference (NRMLC)
Assemble a doc filled with sample emails for possible Saturday presenters and send them out to the board.
Create a Google Slides presentation for each day's opening remarks. Each interested board member will insert a slide that serves as networking opportunity or previewing the day's events.
Create a music playlist for tunes that will be playing in the background in the main gathering space when participants are interacting. What is the possible role of playlists in the conference?
Create a slideshow of media literacy images and quotes that can flip while attendees are having lunch and networking.
Design my opening remarks -- draw from Renee's slideshow at the SIDL opening remarks., from Dave Quinn's gifs, from Kristin Zemke's image gallery. Look at what's hot and recent at the JMLE. Refer to Zeimke's sources: Photos for class - photos for reuse in schools; Newsela = content source; wonderopolis = free; The Kids Should See This = curation from sites and sources around the world; What's Going on in this Picture? from NY Times
Send letters of acceptance to presenters. Contact every participant who's been accepted; tell them when they'll be presenting and in what format.
Should accepted presenters be asked to submit a blog post that describes their work? It would make for good marketing. Such guest blogs could suggest that ML professionals can benefit from strategic communication
Design and print necessary marketing materials.
Design the August Constant Contact blast.
Make arrangements to record a webinar with Alex David.
Create a Flipgrid for participants to introduce themselves and to share their goals for their personal media literacy evolution.
Check with Pam: Whatever happened to the media literacy baseline survey of RI principals using the Washington state survey tool?
