College students': career goals, concerns, communication skills
Engaging alumni in the job search process
Healthy Aging RI - seven pillars to healthy/thriving community for older adults
Capturing the story of older adults
Networking is an excellent and engaging way for students to make professional connections and to learn about jobs and the skills they need to develop to pursue each one.
Students don't understand networking and often times are not comfortable speaking with professionals and people they don't know. Their idea of speaking with someone is often, asking that person to hire them.
What is the connection between networking and informational interviewing?
This project will show students how to network and the kinds of questions that can/should be asked in a networking situation.
Who should network?
Why would someone network?
What questions do students have about jobs?
What questions would students want to ask of alums?
How can I teach the art of networking while encouraging students to see the value of the experience?
How can the information gathered through these exchanges be captured and archived for future student use?
What is the connection between informational interviewing and networking?
Reach out to a sample group of students, explaining the project and asking what questions they would have for alums.
Create my list of questions that would ensure students hear some of the important elements relating to a variety of positions.
Connect with our Marketing Coordinator to see if recorded interviews are a possibility for our website or if other options are recommended.
Long term goal: have interviews recorded with students doing the videorecording.
"I Know a Guy". Teaching college students how to network in a fun RI way. This project will feature one networking "capture," as a sample for our Marketing Coordinator.
Wow! My list is long. Thank you to:
Frank Romanelli, who has had my back since my first summer in SIDL and has encouraged me to come to SIDL2025
Julie and Cara who have been so welcoming in allowing me to join in late
All of you that I know I will learn from this week, and all of the "you's" who I have learned from in other summers
My supervisors who said, "Sure, do it!"
And the students and older adults who inspire me each and every day.
