Doctoral Research

Dr. Mrs.Pallavi Niranjan Shintre is working as Assistant Professor , her research aims on understanding evolution of Industry 4.0 practices in manufacturing sector and exploring the extent of Industry 4.0 adoption in selected manufacturing firms in MIDC Pune and to identify factors influencing the implementation of Industry 4.0 in selected manufacturing firms in MIDC Pune.

Her study focused on "Moving from First Industrial Revolution to Fourth Industrial Revolution"

Due to globalization the organizations are working under cut throat competition for the sustainable growth of the business. Every now and then industries are undergoing the dramatic changes in order to achieve competitive advantage. Three industrial revolutions we have seen, which ultimately resulting in significantly higher productivity and benefitted society.

• First revolution with the advent of steam energy and improved the effectiveness through

the use of hydropower over steam power.

• Second revolution occurred by electric power. The development of the concept of

assembly lines for mass production was boon part to the society.

• Third revolution was blend of automation by using electronics and information

technology. The major part of this third revolution was computerization started in

industrial operations and processes. It was also known as “digital revolution”.

• Industry 4.0 is a blend of Information Technology and Operation Technology. The

Industry 4.0 uses “Internet of Things”, for strong connection of people, things and

machines. Along with the internet, an expert system, intelligent machines, production and

manufacturing process are collectively working and forming a huge information system.

Reasons for the tectonic shift of the industrial revolution are as follows:

• Innovations and technological growth,

• Economies of scale and lower cost,

• Need to take decentralized decisions in today’s virtualized real world,

• Development in the area of supply chain and logistics

Pune has been well-known as manufacturing and IT hub, where companies in the area of

mining, food, manufacturing, and electricity are really doing excellent.

• Pune region has structured growth of infrastructure and a business-friendly environment

which can be seen at various MIDC area such as Ranjangaon, Chakan, Bhosari etc. which

attracted several manufacturers viz Volkswagen, Faurecia, Praj, Honeywell, Thermax etc.

• Government is focusing on manufacturing sector through ‘Make in India ‘initiative and

various policies such as the ‘National Policy for Advanced Manufacturing.

• Recently, the statistics from IBEF report also talks about the inflow through FDI for

FY22 (until December 2021) is US$ 44.17 billion and by 2026 Automobile industry in

India is expected to achieve a turnover of $300 million.

• By the year 2026 Indian Automobile industry is expected to achieve a turnover of $300

million and will grow at the rate of CAGR 15 per cent from current revenue of $74

billion. Thus there is tremendous growth is expected in manufacturing sector.
