I encourage collaboration with a class opener (bell work) and a whole class closing routine. That way, students who prefer to work on their own have the opportunity to talk and work with others for at least 15 minutes of the class period.
In this picture, you see students collaborating while completing an aspire-to-do one-pager.
One-on-one instruction: After the opening bell work, I project the public-facing progress tracker; I use the data from the progress tracker to decide what students need one-on-one instruction. During the self-paced learning time, I work one-on-one with students who need revision and reteaching. Additionally, I also work one-on-one with students who are behind pace and need extra support.
Small group instruction: After the opening bell work, I project the public-facing progress tracker; I use the data from the progress tracker to group students. I group students into table pods based on where they are in the learning progression.
Whole group instruction: I like to use whole group instruction when introducing a new topic, clarifying a common misunderstanding, and/or changing up instruction to keep it fresh.
