Lesson Title: About the Language: Adjectives
Learning Objective: Students will learn about Latin adjectives, how they are similar to (and differ from) English adjectives, and learn the endings for the declensions of adjectives.
I create a slide deck for every lesson and record a video, just like I would present it to them in person. It helps me to stay on task and streamline what I want to present. The key is to keep it simple and short - one concept explained with examples/practice given.
My guided notes are designed to reflect the information I deliver in the corresponding video and to give them an outline of the important information in the lesson.
Occasionally, I will ask students to look at an element of grammar and write down their noticings before introducing the new element to them. This gets them thinking about the Latin language's similarities and differences from English.
I design my units to have a storyline running through them, and every Mastery Check and assessment advances the storyline - hence the bees in the beginning! These Mastery Checks are spot checks for me- do the students get it?
For this Mastery Check, the questions are similar to the practice worksheet. It shouldn’t be too difficult if students are paying attention!
I designed my progress tracker to look like a map.
Must Dos are the main path
Should Dos are off the path and connecting back in
Aspire to Dos are dead ends
The idea is that the main path is where you need to go. The side detours are elements that will help with learning the objectives. The dead ends are extras that don’t need to be done to understand the whole but add learning somehow.
