I currently teach elementary education.
I first learned about the Modern Classrooms Project in a Professional Learning Pod in which we decided to listen to podcasts as the foundation of our learning. We specifically chose the Cult of Pedagogy, and we chose a couple of podcasts we would like to listen to and discuss. One of those was the interview with MCP CEO Kareem Farah. My husband is also a teacher, and we both were so inspired we knew we had found exactly what we were looking for. I went all the way, adapting the methods I had tried from just the podcast and free course, and I finally realized the power of the whole model implemented with fidelity. I knew this was a resource that all teachers could use, so I went through the process of becoming a DCME and applied to be a mentor. I truly find joy in helping other teachers find this path.
One thing I love about MCP is that it is made by teachers in the classroom for teachers, truly honoring student’s humanity by giving them the space to not behave like a robot. I also love the incredible relationships it builds, that it requires us to truly backward plan and improve our teaching immensely, and how it alleviates so many behavior problems. I could fill up a whole Ted Talk, but I will stop here.
When not at school, you can find me doing science by trying to create the perfect cup of coffee, cheesecake, quiche, etc., attempting to grow a container garden, and reading all of the books.
