The Young Coots play music that’s based on American roots, which includes folk, traditional country and bluegrass, often described as Americana, but the band stretches into modern indie and vintage rock. They use many acoustic instruments, but not exclusively: keyboards, as well as accordion, stand-up bass as well as electric bass, electric guitars as well as acoustic and has recently added drums. Everybody sings harmony and many in the band take lead vocals. 

The band has put on concerts for the Marmalade Jam Fest (multiple times), Feldman’s Deli, Woodbine Food Hall and the Salt Lake Library. They have recorded one EP, titled Debut which can be heard on Spotify and Apple Music. 

Three band members played in the Smith Bros. Dirt Band, a bluegrass band whose origin goes back to 1968: Randall Smith, Wes Dewsnup and Alysha Smith. The band recorded two vinyl albums in the 1970s and their music is available on digital platforms. 

The band wants to play and considers all opportunities to make live music for others enjoyment.
