What is My Choice?

Founder

Scott Starkweather is the guidance counselor, cross country coach, golf coach, and founder of My Choice at MOC-Floyd Valley Middle School in Alton, Iowa. He began teaching at MOC-Floyd Valley in 1992. He enjoys his mission of guiding people to God's word. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, playing with his grand kids, and spending time in God's Word.

History

My Choice began 33 years ago with only 4 people. It began as a small group to decide how to impact our school spiritually. We grew it to 8 and then 16. Then we decided to invite any 8th graders who want to attend. Over the years we have added 6th and 7th grade. We have had meetings of over 150 students showing up at 7 a.m. to praise God. We usually select a topic such as the parables, famous people of the Bible, etc. and then bring in a speaker(s) to teach us. We have now met over a 1,000 times and have had over 1,700 students participate in this program.

When is My Choice?

My Choice meets every Thursday morning from 7:00-7:45 A.M. in the old gym at MOC-FV middle school in Alton, Iowa. After it is finished students have enough time to grab breakfast and make it to class on time.

There are a few fundraising events each year on My Choice mornings to provide financial support for the program:

Jump rope at the poll
3-on-3 basketball tournament
Dodgeball tournament

Additionally, Mr. Starkweather sponsors an annual ski trip for the 8th graders. He also leads a program called Identity Training throughout the school year, which takes place during the school day.

My Choice happens at the MOC-FV middle school located in Alton Iowa. The address is

What Happens at My Choice?

Usually at My Choice we get speakers that come speak about bible stories, their testimonies, and preach about the word of God. We play games, pray together, share our stories with one another. Most My Choice students will say this is an awesome way to start out your morning. Some of our annual speakers we have had are located down below. Clink on their links to find out more about them!
