Join Ramón Rivera, Music & Dance Teacher and Inclusion Specialist at Mount Vernon High School, for an engaging presentation focused on making your classroom more accessible to every student. Learn practical strategies, adaptive instruments, and inclusive classroom techniques that help students of all abilities participate, build confidence, and experience success in any school classroom.
Ramón Rivera is a Music & Dance Teacher and Inclusion Specialist at Mount Vernon High School in Washington, with more than 25 years of experience in education. He is the Director of the award-winning MV Mariachi & Folklorico program and is passionate about making music accessible to students of all abilities. In 2023 he was named the Washington State Music Teacher of the Year, a CMA Foundation Teacher of Excellence, and Seattle Seahawks Latino Leader of the Year. Through culturally responsive teaching, adaptive instruments, and innovative music education, he empowers students to participate, succeed, and find their voice through music.

Art Integration and Civic Engagement in Schools: Collaborations with the Arts, ELA and Social Studies
Presented by Stephanie Hasty, Amanda Perschall and Elizabeth Barker
Explore how arts integration can deepen civic engagement, cultural understanding, and student voice through collaborative work across English Language Arts, Social Studies and Fine Arts. At Lebanon High School, arts integration is used to connect students to their own culture while increasing awareness for others. Featuring student research and reflection, interdisciplinary lessons, grant funded artist-in-residencies, mural projects, assemblies and a Culture Fair, the presentation explores how creative inquiry helps make connections to identity and global perspectives. Presenters Stephanie Hasty, Amanda Perschall and Elizabeth Barker use storytelling to demonstrate how culturally responsive teaching fosters curiosity, community responsibility, empathy and impactful student engagement.
