Join Dr. Lori Santos and Dr. Steve C. Willis as they share their experiences as art educators, approaches for honoring indigenous knowledge, and practices to engage students through arts-centered, culturally responsive learning.
Dr. Lori Santos is an Associate Professor of Art Education at Wichita State University. Dr. Santos’ research and teaching interests include cultural and community curriculum development, cross-cultural and indigenous arts, diversity in preservice teacher training, and social justice and critical theories in art. Santos is active in the art education community, presenting regularly at conferences for organizations such as the Kansas Art Education Association, National Art Education Association, United States Society for Education through the Arts, and the National Association of Multicultural Education.
Dr. Steve C. Willis is a Professor of Art Education at Missouri State University. The National Art Education Association honored Dr. Willis, with the 2024 Gilbert A. Clark and Enid Zimmerman Leadership Advocacy Award. His research and teaching interests include art education, indigenous knowledge and tribal cultural construction in the arts, issues of equity, Native American studies, visual culture, and spirituality in art.
