Seating and Positioning
Elementary School grades 1-4
Elementary School grades 1-4
The ideal posture for a student to be in during instructional writing times is called a 90-90-90 position. This means that the student is sitting in a chair with their hips, knees and ankles at a 90 degree angle to the floor (feet should be flat on the floor) and at an appropriate sized desk.
However, some students may benefit from experiencing alternative body positions in order to enhance their physical strength, endurance and/or attention to perform activities (i.e. standing, lying on their bellies, sitting on the floor, t-stool, ball chair, etc).
First Steps to helping students who struggle
How do we know the supports are working?
Please select 1-3 supports and implement them for 3 weeks while tracking the student's response. This data will help adjust supports and during the evaluation process if that is a necessary step.
