From the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA):
"An assistive technology device is defined as any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of a child with a disability.
An assistive technology service is any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition or use of an assistive technology device."

Text Help PDF Reader - available for all students in MMUUSD
Voice Typing in Google Docs - available for all students in MMUUSD (access from the 'Tools' menu)
Open Dyslexic Font - an open-sourced font created to increase readability for readers with dyslexia. This extension overrides all fonts on web pages with the OpenDyslexic font, and formats pages to be more easily readable.
Mercury Reader - removes ads and distractions from web pages, leaving only text and images for a clean and consistent reading view on every website
BeeLine Reader - uses a color gradient to guide your eyes from the end of one line to the beginning of the next
AlphaText - customize and change the appearance of online articles to enhance text readability
TouchChat HD AAC with Word Power
If you have a student with a communication challenge, please reach out to your school's SLP for support in the selection process for AAC devices.

AT Referral Process
Assistive Technology needs at MMUUSD will be addressed through a team approach with Occupational Therapy and Tech Integration. Please follow suggestions listed above or in the other sections of this website. Consider looking at the fine motor and adaptive skills areas. Select 1-3 suggestions to try and keep data on. Please reach out to the OT in your school with questions.
How do we know the supports are working?
Please select 1-3 supports and implement them for 3 weeks while tracking the student's response. This data will help adjust supports and during the evaluation process if that is a necessary step.
