Introduction to
AI
October 2, 2023

In our Introductory Session, we will start with the basics of defining AI, LLM’s, Machine Learning, and other buzzwords that have emerged in the last year. We will demonstrate how popular large language models like CHATGPT work and give participants an opportunity to play with the tech to gain confidence and understanding in this exciting field.

AI for your students
November 6, 2023

Dr. Kate Moore, Research Scientist at the MIT STEP Lab, and current educators will present curriculum materials based on the Everyday AI Project (NSF #2048746) and Developing AI Literacy (DAILy) curriculum development project (NSF #2022502). These materials teach students how supervised machine learning tools learn and how, depending on who is inputting knowledge (i.e., training data) into the system, biases can be built in, intentionally or not. This session will include activities and discussion.

AI as a Tool for Teaching
February 26, 2024

Jon Ippolito, professor of New Media at the University of Maine, will guide teachers through activities focusing on using LLMs for creating lesson plans, study materials, and other resources that can assist teachers. Educators will have the opportunity to test out lesson plans and other activities.

AI and Ethics for Educators
March 25, 2024

Education leaders engaged in the ethics of AI will facilitate a conversation around ethical decision making and AI. Participants will leave the session with a framework to help guide their decision-making around which AI tools to use and how.
