** Only students in grades 4-8 are graded in Specials.
Spanish grades will consist of:
Assessments:
Tests: Students can expect one assessment per unit. This will sometimes be in the traditional format, but this could also be in the form of an in-class project or assignment. For traditional assessments, students will be given a minimum two-week notice, and a study guide will be provided in Google Classroom.
Quizzes: We will occasionally have short quizzes. Students will be given a one-week notice for quizzes.
NOTE: Students will never be given a "pop quiz" in Spanish class.
A participation & cooperation grade:
Every two weeks, students will receive a grade for their participation and cooperation in Spanish class. These grades are given on a scale of 1-4. The rubric for the participation and cooperation grade is below.
Spanish
4 (90 or above) - Exceeds Expectations
Students will earn a four for their participation / cooperation grade if they:
Complete all assignments as directed
Participate enthusiastically every or most weeks
Always put forth their best effort
Always demonstrate respect for self, classmates, teacher, and classroom supplies
Never or almost never disrupt teaching and learning time
Always come to class prepared and ready to learn
Seek additional opportunities to further comprehension of and ability to communicate in Spanish. This can take many forms; it doesn’t necessarily mean completing extra work, though enrichment activities are available upon request.
3 (70 - 89 ) - Meets Expectations
Students will earn a three for their participation / cooperation grade if they:
Complete all or most assignments as directed
Participate regularly week to week
Give their best effort
Demonstrate respect for self, classmates, teacher, and classroom supplies
Rarely disrupt teaching and learning time
Come to class prepared and ready to learn almost always
2 (60 - 69) - Does Not Meet Expectations
Students will earn a two for their participation / cooperation grade if they:
Complete most or some assignments as directed
Participate on occasion
Sometimes give best effort, but often is not engaged in classroom activities
Often disrupt teaching and learning time
Often demonstrate disrespect for self, classmates, teacher, or classroom supplies
Often come to class unprepared and not ready to learn
1 (Under 60) - Needs Significant Improvement
Students will earn a one for their participation / cooperation grade if they:
Complete very few or no assignments as directed
Do not participate in class
Do not put forth best effort or attempt to engage in classroom activities
Regularly disrupt teaching and learning time
Regularly show disrespect for self, classmates, teacher, or classroom supplies
Regularly come to class unprepared and not ready to learn
