Audition Info & FAQ
General Information
For all MLHS Theatre Productions, cast members will sign up to audition via a Google Form! (See the Upcoming Auditions Page for the link to any current auditions!)
Any students who wish to be cast in any production will need to complete the Audition Process.
After filling out the above mentioned Google Form to sign up, all students will be assigned a time slot within the designated Audition time frame. NOTE: Please keep an eye on your email for your Audition Time! Make sure you arrive ON TIME (aka EARLY) for your Audition. Sometimes we run ahead of schedule!
The Audition location will always be disclosed with the Audition Announcements. (See the Upcoming Auditions Page for current information!)
If you have any conflicts with the Audition Date and/or the time you're assigned, please reach out to the directors ahead of time to let them know so we can give you instructions for an alternative audition.
Additionally, if you have a conflict and would like to request a specific time, please let us know ASAP and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

What to Prepare
All MLHS Theatre Auditions will have specific material for students to prepare. Students will be given these materials ahead of time and will have the opportunity to choose what they would like to perform for their audition based on the production & role(s) they are auditioning for.
Hard copies of the materials will be given out in each production's Audition Meeting. Additionally, digital copies are available for all current Auditions on the Upcoming Auditions page.
What to Bring
Audition Form: For every MLHS Theatre Audition you will be required to bring your complete Audition Form. Audition Forms are provided in each Audition Packet for the current production and are given our at the respective Audition Meeting. You can also find extra copies (for printing) on the Upcoming Auditions page.
Audition Material: If you don't have your audition material memorized for your audition, make sure you bring your OWN COPY of the audition materials with you.
Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is important! Make sure you have a water bottle with you.
Moveable Clothing: If you're auditioning for our Spring Musical, you will likely be asked to participate in a Dance Audition. Make sure you bring a set of clothes that are easy to move around and dance in so your clothing does not affect your movement (and your audition)! For example: leggings, athletic shorts, etc... We suggest staying away from jeans or any clothes that can restrict your movement.
Jazz Shoes or Comfortable Sneakers: As stated above, if you're auditioning for our Spring Musical, you will also need to bring a pair of Jazz Shoes or comfortable sneakers for participating in the Dance Audition. Having comfortable shoes is very important for dance.
Audition Materials
All Audition Materials will be distributed during our Pre-Production Audition Meetings. Everyone who signs up for an audition will receive an Audition Packet containing all of the material and important information about our production.
Materials will usually consist of Character Specific Audition Sides and, for our musicals, Musical Excerpts from the production we'll be performing.
Check the Upcoming Auditions page for copies of Audition Material for current auditions.
Audition Tips
Be Prepared: Read the material and do your research. Make sure you go into your audition knowing the material you are auditioning with inside and out as well as the story of the show. The better you know the material, the better your performance will be. If you can, memorize your piece(s). Practice! Practice Practice! ALSO- make sure you arrive with EVERYTHING you need to audition- Completed Audition Form, Copies of Material (if needed), etc...
Be On Time/ Arrive Early: Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled audition time. Nothing says "unprepared" than an actor who shows up late for an audition! Getting to your audition early also gives you time to prepare mentally and focus.
Use Your Waiting Time Wisely: Use your time before your audition to focus your energy. While it's inevitable to chat with friends, make sure you give yourself time to get in the "audition zone".
Dress Appropriately: Make sure you're dressed so you can move. Whether you're auditioning for the musical and are required to dance or the drama and are required to move, your clothes should look nice and not restrict your movement.
Be Confident: Being nervous is OKAY! In fact, being nervous can sometimes be a good thing. Not only does it show that this audition is important to you, it also can be used to fuel your performance! However, make sure from the second you walk into your audition room, you are making a great first impression by
Introduce Yourself: Yes, we probably know you! But that's okay, introduce yourself anyway. And if we don't already know you, introduce yourself! It's a good practice when auditioning to get used to telling the audition panel who you are so get comfortable with introducing yourself. Tell us your name, the role(s) you're auditioning for and the material you prepared.
Be Flexible & Take Direction: Auditioning isn't just about your performance. It's also a chance for the directors to see how you take and interpret directions! Being flexible and open to direction will show the directors that not only can you work on your toes but you can apply your skills and artistic interpretation to other material or situations.
Be Kind to Everyone: As a cast member, you are part of a team. Kindness is an essential part of being a team player.
Remember Projection & Diction: Your amazing character analysis and preparation will be wasted if the audition panel can't hear or understand you! Part of being a good performer is being able to project your voice. Practice your volume and diction in addition to your sides & songs!
Do Your Best: In everything you do, always do your best. If you practice and prepare yourself, dedicating your time and energy to bringing your best self to the audition, it will surely show. Remember, the directors and audition panel want you to do well!
