You will gather in a group of 4 to choose a country of interest to you and then decide who will take on each role: historian, geographer, anthropologist, and economist. Each member of your group will do research on the best locations to visit, activities to take part in, and ways to immerse yourself in the culture that you choose.
Together, your group will decide which cities, landmarks, museums, restaurants, etc. to visit, which festivals or activities to be a part of, how you will travel to each location, and a rough draft budget for the trip. Your group will design an itinerary for this trip in the form of a brochure. You will be limited to a $5,000 maximum budget for this two-week trip.
Following your planned itinerary, each member of your group will gather artifacts, information, and pictures according to your roles’ descriptions. Together, you will use what you have gathered to create a scrapbook of memories from your trip with a short explanation of the significance of each addition. Along with this scrapbook, each of you will write a 1-page (5-6th Grade) or 2-page (7-8th Grade) document explaining your process, the information that you gathered, and why you decided to include the aspects that you did in the itinerary and scrapbook and persuading the school to choose your country for the international trip.
Your final product will include the following:
Your group’s itinerary
Your group’s scrapbook
Your individual 1 or 2-page explanation
A brief oral presentation on the 3 above aspects
