Becky Stewart is in her ninth year of teaching band and choir at Yuba Gardens Intermediate in Olivehurst, CA. She graduated with honors from Sacramento State with a bachelor’s in Music Performance: Flute and Music Education. And then graduated in 2022 with her master’s degree in music education from the American Band College.
Becky is a recipient of the 2015 CTA Outstanding First Year Teacher award, the 2019 Outstanding New Educator award, the 2020 recipient of the CMEA Middle School Music Specialist Award, the 2023 and first-ever recipient of the CMEA Capitol Section “Title 1 Music Educator of the Year”, and then the VFW Post 4095 2023 Teacher of the Year.
This year, Becky commissioned Randall Standridge to write a piece entitled “ME (reAffirmaition.” This piece is a part of the unBroken Project and provides a spotlight and conversation about mental health. Becky and her students at Yuba Gardens were featured twice on Good Day Sacramento and received newspaper recognition.
Becky serves on the CMEA Capitol Section Board as the Advocacy Representative. She has conducted the 2020 Bi-County Honor Band in Calaveras, and the 2022 CMEA Northern Section Honor Choir. She was a guest conductor at Cazadero Music Camp in 2023 and is also on staff for Sugarloaf Fine Arts Camp.
Becky has presented at CADA and CASMEC state conferences on creating a positive culture for music at schools. Becky serves on the CMEA Capitol Section Board as the Advocacy Representative. Becky is also passionate about giving new music educators great resources to start their profession and has been an induction mentor for five years.
She loves to cruise in her ‘65 Mustang with her brother and Dad in her spare time and perform in the Yuba Sutter Big Band with her husband.
