Wonders The Wonders 2017 reading program is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum designed to support your child's literacy development. It focuses on building strong reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
Language Arts Students will learn to write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. They will also write informative/explanatory text to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. In addition, they will learn to write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective techniques, descriptive detail, and clear event sequences. Students should also have a good knowledge of the parts of speech, grade-appropriate spelling rules, and proper capitalization.
Go Math This program is designed to support math learning that aligns with the Common Core standards and focuses on building strong foundation in key math concepts such as Place Value and Operations to the millions, Fractions and decimals, Geometry and measurement, and Problem-Solving skills.
Social Studies Students will have an understanding of the physical and human geographic features that define places and regions in California. Students will learn about the life and interactions among people of California from the pre-Columbian societies to the Spanish mission and Mexican rancho periods. In addition, they will learn about life in California from the establishment of the Bear Flag Republic through the Mexican-American War, the Gold Rush, and the granting of statehood.
Science Students will learn that plants and animals have internal and external structures supporting survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction. They will also identify evidence from patterns in rock formations, fossils in rock formations, and fossils in rock layers for changes in a landscape over time to support an explanation for changes in a landscape over time. Furthermore, students will demonstrate an understanding of Waves and their Applications in Technologies for Information Transfer. Finally, students will learn about some energy concepts, such as that sound, light, heat, and electric currents can transfer energy from place to place.
