In 2023-2024, Arboga Elementary began the implementation of AVID starting with the 8th grade AVID elective. In the 2024-2025 school year, we added a 7th grade AVID elective and have become one of two schools within our school district to pilot AVID Elementary.

What is AVID?

The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program is a college and career readiness initiative designed to support students in achieving their full potential. Focused on closing the gap, AVID provides students with the tools and strategies needed for academic success through Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR). 

Why AVID?

These strategies, known as WICOR strategies, creates opportunities for students to practice critical thinking, organization, time management, and develop effective study habits. Through a combination of classroom instruction, mentorship, and collaborative learning, AVID empowers students to set and achieve ambitious goals, preparing them for success in higher education and beyond. The program emphasizes and is well aligned with our vision to provide a supportive environment and equitable access to rigorous coursework, helping students become lifelong learners and leaders.
