GEOGRAPHY AND MAP WORK: Review the list above - how familiar are you with the items listed? The less familiar you are, the more time you ought to consider investing in geography games this summer.
MAP TUTORIAL: My favorite learning software is linked below. Your goal is to arrive to school in August knowing where most of the items above are located. I suggest spending a little bit of time (15–30 min) EACH DAY playing geography games. If you want to document your commitment to learning geography, take a SCREENSHOT of your scores after you play.
If, during Geography Quizzes in August/September, you can show me your summer "proof of work" - you can earn a free pass on some fall assignments. This will only be offered to students who can show me the screenshots of your work - collected in one googledoc when you come to school in August. The more you play (and document) over the summer, the more improvement you will see, AND the more likely you will be to earn free passes on some homework!
Sheppard's Software is perhaps the BEST (free) geography game available. All students can use it to improve map skills -- You can start on easy maps and progressively build up to more complex and challenging maps. Study Capitals, Landscapes, and Geography ... start easy and work your way up to REALLY hard!
FYI If you use this software, at the top of each map game is a link where you can monitor your scores - it also shows how long you played each game.
Go old school - complete blank maps on paper!
Print out free blank maps at the link above to practice your geography! Start easy and advance to more complex maps - just have fun with it ... this should not be work! You can bring in copies of maps you practiced on and studied for "proof of work."
