Exploring the history of the First World War through archives held at WV and Regional History Center

University librarian Dr. Miriam Cady curated several archival collections for honors students to examine. Documents from the following collections were consulted:

World War I Posters

Clyde Cale, Collector, Memorabilia of Entertainer Elsie Janis

George W. and Frederick W. Marshall, WWI Letters and Other Material

West Virginia University in World War I Collection

Having explored documents from these different collections, students selected a source or two of their choice to analyze in greater detail. Students wrote short essays describing and contextualizing their selected source(s). Student essays also reflected on their experiences visiting WVRHC and handling archival sources. In addition to their essays, students presented on their findings using Power Point presentations.

The excellent entries below from HIST 209 honors students at West Virginia University are proof of the benefits of partnering with WVU librarians and the West Virginia and Regional History Center to provide unique student learning opportunities.
