Now that you have learned about researching reasonable accommodations and scholarships to study abroad, you will have a chance to practice speaking with real live international education professionals to glean information about programs that might interest you. After you share a scholarship that interests you based on your research from the previous topic, you will hear about key questions that you might want to ask a study abroad advisor about a given program as part of your effort to find the option that is best. The last hour of the session will be spent conversing with a panel of international education providers. Though NCDE will have a list of questions to discuss with the panel, queries from the students will take priority.
Tell us what international scholarship is most interesting to you and why.
It could be one of the scholarships that we talked about or another one that you know of.
Also, please come to this class with your three questions ready to ask our panel.
Octavio di Leo has studied and worked in 6 countries (Argentina, Italy, Spain, Germany, United States, and Brazil), mostly in the field of education abroad, where he tried to inspire students to learn languages and leave their comfort zone. He was born and raised in Buenos Aires, where he returned after living for 30 years out of the country and has fun setting up international teams, producing documentaries that advocate for social action, and practicing outdoor sports, like rowing and horse riding. Every time he moved to a new place, he built long-lasting personal and institutional relationships and learned how people from all walks of life negotiate in different cultures. He developed curricula, managed media projects, and taught seminars with a focus on conflict studies and oral history.
Octavio spent 8 years living in Rome and would like to discuss with the students the implications of the idiom: “While in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
