Madhav Institute of Technology and Science (Gwalior) was founded in 1957 by His Highness Sir Jiwaji Rao Scindia, Maharaja of the erstwhile state of Gwalior, as part of the open-door policy of the Government of India. The institute's foundation stone was laid by the then President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on October 20, 1956, and the building was inaugurated by President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan on December 11, 1964. Madhav Institute of Technology and Science (Gwalior) is a government-aided, UGC autonomous, and NAAC-accredited with A++ Grade institution located in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh. The institute's local chapter of NPTEL received a AAA rating in 2021, and it is listed in the 251-300 band of NIRF 2021 and is part of the promising band of ARIIA 2021. Initially, the institute started with three disciplines: Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, with an intake of 40 students each. Currently, the institute offers 17 undergraduate, 10 master's, and doctoral degree programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture Planning, Computer Application, and Management, with a student population of over 5000. Many of these programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The institute is recognized as a Quality Improvement Program (QIP) centre for AICTE's PhD program. It has successfully implemented TEQIP II and TEQIP III and was recognized as the best performer in the final performance audit among all the TEQIP III funded institutes in the nation. In line with its vision "To create world-class quality Engineers and Technocrats capable of providing leadership in all spheres of life and society, " the institute has implemented Outcome-based education and a Flexible curriculum with provisions for major and minor degrees. It has also established collaborations with globally recognized organizations and has implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to provide multidisciplinary education. The institute conducts various activities, including Novel Engaging Courses, for the holistic development of its students.
