🔍 ಹೆಸರಿನ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ
The name "Tilmati" comes from the Kannada words "Til" meaning sesame and "Mati" meaning sand, referring to the unique black sand that resembles sesame seeds. This distinctive black sand is the result of centuries of geological processes.
The beach's black sand is primarily composed of eroded volcanic minerals and basaltic rocks. Over millions of years, the weathering of these rocks from the nearby Western Ghats, combined with the action of waves and currents, has created this rare black sand beach.
Unlike most beaches with golden or white sand (composed mainly of quartz and feldspar), Tilmati Beach's sand contains high amounts of iron-rich minerals like magnetite and ilmenite, giving it the distinctive black color that makes it so unique.
"ತಿಲ್ಮತಿ" ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನು ಕನ್ನಡದ "ತಿಲ" (ಎಳ್ಳು) ಮತ್ತು "ಮತಿ" (ಮಣ್ಣು) ಎಂಬ ಪದಗಳಿಂದ ಬಂದಿದೆ, ಇದು ಎಳ್ಳಿನ ಬೀಜಗಳಂತೆ ಕಾಣುವ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಕಪ್ಪು ಮಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಕಪ್ಪು ಮರಳಿನು ಶತಮಾನಗಳಿಂದ ನಡೆದ ಭೌಗೋಳಿಕ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳ ಫಲವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಈ ಬೀಚಿನ ಕಪ್ಪು ಮರಳು ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಕ್ಷರಿಸಿದ ಅಗ್ನಿಜನ್ಯ ಖನಿಜಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಬಸಾಲ್ಟಿಕ್ ಬಂಡೆಗಳ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಲಕ್ಷಾಂತರ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟದಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾದ ಈ ಬಂಡೆಗಳ ವಾತಾವರಣದ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಮುದ್ರದ ಅಲೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಗಳ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಿಂದ ಈ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಕಪ್ಪು ಮರಳು ಬೀಚ್ ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿದೆ.
ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಬೀಚುಗಳು ಚಿನ್ನದ ಅಥವಾ ಬೆಳ್ಳಿಯ ಮರಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತವೆ (ಇವು ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಕ್ವಾರ್ಟ್ಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಫೆಲ್ಸ್ಪಾರ್ನಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಿತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ), ಆದರೆ ತಿಲ್ಮತಿ ಬೀಚ್ನ ಮರಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಲೋಹ ಸಮೃದ್ಧ ಖನಿಜಗಳು, ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಮ್ಯಾಗ್ನಟೈಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ಇಲ್ಮೆನೈಟ್ ಇದ್ದು, ಇದರ ಅಪೂರ್ವ ಕಪ್ಪು ಬಣ್ಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ
