Glory of the place

The name of the place is Parvati Brahmeshwara Temple situated on the banks of Tungabhadra River.

The river Tunga and Bhadra join near Holehonnur village of Shivamogga Taluk and District in the state of Karnataka.

It is located 3 km away from the National Highway on the way to Chitradurga from Shivamogga.

The place where both the rivers ,i.e, Tunga and Bhadra join or meet is called the "Brahmatheertha".

The river is a divine place where the Lord Brahma has taken holy bath ( also known by many names such as Sacred Bath, Religious ablution , ritual cleansing) . According to Hindu Cultural context it the sacred bath is also known as by many other names such as Snan, auspicious dip and Tirth Snan .

This place  called the Brahmatheertha is in the  front of Harihareshwara castle. The devotees come from about 100 km surroundings to the temple especially at the time of Ugadi ( Regarded as New Year according to Hindu Cultural context) every year.

The place is also called Adiharihareshwara where there are Vishnu Saligrama and Shivalinga. In front of of it, there are footprints of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

The place of Brahma is highly regarded as precious and holy not only in Kudli but also  all over the world.

There also exists the "Shila Vigraha"( "stone idol" or "stone image ")of  the sons of Goddess Parvati , Lord Mahaganapathi and Lord Subrahmanya, laid in the feet of the Goddess Parvati, the wife of Brahma.

When Raja Ram Mohan Roy visited the sacred  place  Kudli during his time , he established the idol of Raja Rameshwara Shivalinga called as the Raja Rameshwara Temple. Along with this temple, there are also many ancient temples found nearby .

Between the borders of Chikmagalur ( "Western Ghats " or "Malenadu ")  and Dakshina Kannada ("Coastal Karnataka " or "Karavali ") districts there exists the "Tunga Moola"( the origin of the holy rivers "Tunga" and "Bhadra"). The birthplace of the rivers Tunga and Bhadra in the Varaha parvatha.

The temple is located in the middle of the village Kudli , which is about 17 km away from the district headquarters Shivamogga.

Both the rivers Tunga and Bhadra are flowing along this "Brahmatheertha".

The distance between the Brahmatheertha and the Parvati Brahmeshwara Temple is about half a kilometre.

All the devotees enter the "Brahma Devalaya " only after their ritual cleansing at the "Brahmatheertha".

The Lord Brahma is the rewriter of the forehead. On the left side of this region, there flows the Tunga river and on the right side of this region , there flows the Bhadra river. This place where the two holy rivers confluence is known as the "Shatkula". ( the word "Shat" derived from Sanskrit meaning "Six").

ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಮಹಿಮೆ:

ಈ ಪವಿತ್ರವಾದ ಸ್ಥಳದ ಹೆಸರು  ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯ. ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ತುಂಗಾಭದ್ರಾ ನದಿಯ ತಟದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ಪವಿತ್ರ ನದಿಗಳಾದ ತುಂಗಾ ಮತ್ತು ಭದ್ರಾ ಸಂಗಮವಾಗುವ ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮಲೆನಾಡು ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಹಾಗೂ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಹೊಳೆಹೊನ್ನೂರು ಎಂಬ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶವು ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಮತ್ತು ಚಿತ್ರದುರ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಇರುವ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿಯಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು ೩ ಕಿಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ತುಂಗಾ ಮತ್ತು ಭದ್ರಾ ಸಂಗಮಿಸುವ ಈ ತಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ತೀರ್ಥ ಎನ್ನುವರು.

ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮದೇವನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪುಣ್ಯ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಪವಿತ್ರವಾದ ಸ್ನಾನವನ್ನು  ಪುಣ್ಯ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮತ್ತು ತೀರ್ಥಸ್ನಾನ ಎಂಬ ಹಲವು ನಾಮಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಈ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ತೀರ್ಥವು ಹರಿಹರೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮುಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳು ನೆರೆಯ ಸುಮಾರು ನೂರು ಕಿಮೀ ದೂರದಿಂದ ಯುಗಾದಿ ಹಬ್ಬದ ದಿನದಂದು ಬರುವರು.

ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಆದಿ ಹರಿಹರೇಶ್ವರ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುವುದು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿವಲಿಂಗ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಷ್ಣು ಸಾಲಿಗ್ರಾಮಗಳು ಇವೆ. ಇದರ ಮುಂಭಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹರಿಹರರ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಗುರುತುಗಳಿವೆ.ಈ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಕೂಡಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೇ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಾದ್ಯಂತ ಪವಿತ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ದೇವಿಯ ಪುತ್ರರಾದ ಮಹಾಗಣಪತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ದೇವರ ಶಿಲೆಯ ವಿಗ್ರಹಗಳು ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ದೇವಿಯ ಪಾದದ ಬಳಿ ಇವೆ.

ರಾಜಾ ರಾಮ್ ಮೋಹನ್ ರಾಯ್ ರವರು ಅವರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಬಂಗಾಳದಿಂದ ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದಾಗ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜಾ ರಾಮೇಶ್ವರ ಶಿವಲಿಂಗವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಅದನ್ನು ರಾಜಾ ರಾಮೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದರು.

ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮಲೆನಾಡು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಾದ ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಮುದ್ರ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಭಾಗವಾದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ತುಂಗಾ ಮೂಲ ಎಂಬ ಸ್ಥಳವಿದೆ.ತುಂಗಾ ಮತ್ತು ಭದ್ರಾ ನದಿಗಳು ಉಗಮವಾದ  ಈ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ವರಾಹ ಪರ್ವತ ಎನ್ನುವರು.

ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಕೂಡಲಿಯ ಮಧ್ಯಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿದೆ,ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾದ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು ೧೭ ಕಿಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮದೇವನು  ತನ್ನ ಕರ್ಮಾಂಗವನ್ನು ( ಪವಿತ್ರ ಸ್ನಾನ, ಅರ್ಘ್ಯ,ಧ್ಯಾನ,ಜಪ ಮತ್ತು ಗಂಗಾ ಭಾಗೀರಥಿ ಪೂಜೆ) ತುಂಗಾ ಭದ್ರಾ ತೀರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದನು.

ತುಂಗಾ ಮತ್ತು ಭದ್ರಾ ನದಿಗಳು ಈ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ತೀರ್ಥದ ಮೂಲಕ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತವೆ.

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ತೀರ್ಥ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ನಡುವೆ ಸುಮಾರು ಅರ್ಧ ಕಿಮೀ ಅಂತರವಿದೆ.

ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳು ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿಸುವ ಮೊದಲು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ತೀರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಣ್ಯ ಸ್ನಾನವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ದೇವನು  ನಮ್ಮ ಹಣೆಬರಹವನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುವವನು.ಈ ಸ್ಥಳದ ಎಡ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಬಲ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಭದ್ರೆಯರು ಹರಿಯುವವರು.ಈ ಸಂಗಮಕ್ಕೆ " ಷಟ್ಕುಲ " ಎನ್ನುವರು.( "ಷಟ್" ಎಂಬ ಈ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪದದ ಅರ್ಥ "ಆರು" ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿದೆ.)
