Individualization - Arranger - Responsibility - Learner - Harmony
My name is Kirk Kuxhausen. The 24-25 school year will be my 21st year as principal at MES, my 27th year as a principal, and my 35th in education. My experience includes junior high/high school business and math teacher; elementary and high school guidance counselor; high school principal; K-12 principal; elementary principal; junior high and high school coach; college adjunct instructor in accounting and business management. I spent four years outside of education working as an insurance adjuster. I am a hometown graduate of Mitchell Elementary & Mitchell High School. I am a proud graduate of Western Nebraska Community College, Kearney State College, Chadron State College, & the University of Nebraska Kearney. My endorsements are in the following: Business, Marketing, Info Tech (6-12); Work-Based Learning (9-12); Superintendent (PK-12); Principal (7-12); Principal (K-12); School Counselor (K-12).
I am married to my wife Kelli, who is a first grade teacher in Scottsbluff. I have three kids I am deeply proud of: Nick (Eva), Carlye (Creighton), and Madison (Daniel). Nick is a teacher & coach at Mitchell High School. Carlye is a high school counselor in California. Madi is employed by the University of Wyoming. I have three dogs and three cats that I deeply love and care for. My hobbies include golfing, exercising, watching football, hiking, reading, and listening/collecting music. I currently serve on the boards of Teammates of Scotts Bluff County & CAPSTONE Child Advocacy Center. I am a fan of the Denver Broncos, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Wyoming Cowboys, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Colorado Rockies. I am a huge supporter of public education in Nebraska. Education is a gateway to more opportunities. It's important for kids to be involved in all activities. I played all sports and played in the concert, pep, and stage band in school. I was greatly influenced by several of my teachers and coaches in elementary, high school, and college. I would have never have entered education without their influence. Education is something that can never be taken away from a person. If there is one thing I want to transfer to all our students is that I want them to become life-long learners and enjoy their time at MES. I want students to want to come to school & become excited learners! I am passionate about students learning to read and becoming life-long readers. I am very fortunate to work with the staff, students, & parents at MES.
