Dr. Hudson- Third Grade

Teacher Bio

Writing your own biography is difficult!! So, I have resorted to bullet points for the dry details:

  • I am originally from the east coast--born in New York City and raised in Connecticut.
  • After attending college in Baltimore, Maryland, I moved to North Carolina for graduate school. I earned a Ph.D. in Art History at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 2002.
  • I moved to Oregon in 2002.
  • Over several years, I taught Art History at UNC-Chapel Hill, Portland State University, the University of Oregon, and Willamette University in Salem.
  • After spending a few years at home with my two children, I returned to the classroom, teaching math at MITCH in 2016.
  • The 2019-2020 school year is my third year teaching third grade.

I love teaching third grade! The math curriculum is interesting because we jump forward into long division. It is amazing to watch students confront and master this concept! I also enjoy the units we cover in Core Knowledge, although I have to confess that Ancient Rome and the Vikings are my favorites. The history and art history of those times is so rich and complex. When I am not thinking about Ancient Rome and the Vikings and long division, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and sewing. If I can do those three things at Black Butte Ranch or at the beach, even better.
