The "Overland Torque Tune" is one of the smoothest custom tunes available today with specific attention paid to those areas that produce more low and mid-range Torque along with top end performance. Overland rigs, heavy rigs, this tune boasts the best performance money can buy for the ultimate off-road or on-road rig.
Why OTT?
Overland Tailor Tuning (OTT) is one of the few companies in the Toyota world to provide dyno data for the platforms we support. We also strive to help educate the public about the R&D we perform when testing/validating parts. OTT has an entire thread dedicated to the 2nd Gen Tacoma 4.0L sharing our dyno data and parts testing results – aiming to help guide and allow all owners to make informed decisions about their parts choices. We do this at no cost to the end-user and provide free data to the masses.
Regarding the tuning, you’ll often hear competitors say, “we all use the same software to tune the vehicle”. This is being done to try and justify putting other products on a level playing field with us. While there is some truth to that statement, critical components or facets of the process are also glossed over with that philosophy. The core component of what makes OTT a standout within the Toyota tuning industry is the experience we bring to the plate. We have a collective 30+ years of tuning EFI systems, including transplanting OBD-equipped engines from one manufacturer to another chassis. Our understanding of the systems we’re developing gives us a unique perspective on approaching a problem. We often evaluate and look at calibrating on a system or component level, not just how something feels in seat-of-the-pants testing.
Another significant area that sets us apart is how we derive the data we ultimately use and how the calibration is developed, bringing the ECM/TCM tuning together in synchrony. All our changes are modeled using proprietary software & methods that have been developed in-house. This modeling goes above and beyond simply editing the existing values in the OE calibration. We often restructure/reformat how the data is referenced in the calibrations, allowing us to fix specific areas of the OE calibration that would not be possible by simply adding, subtracting, or multiplying the original map/table like most others.
Our testing goes beyond increased power figures or enhanced driving experience as we also invest heavily in R&D to ensure our calibrations are not gross polluters. We utilize our in-house 5-gas analyzer to preliminary evaluate our calibrations using specialized software and the dyno to simulate the drive cycles required for emissions certification. In fact, our 3rd Gen Tacoma 3.5L calibration has achieved its SEMA Certified Emissions Classification and its CARB-EO #D-883 Executive Order.
Your Toyota vehicle is too important to trust to just anyone, trust OTT and Compromise elsewhere.
How does tuning process work?
First, we’ll ask that you give us your truck’s details and sign a waiver giving us the okay to tune your truck. We’ll start by identifying your specific needs and preferences to select the proper tune for your vehicle. We then connect a battery power supply to maintain proper battery voltage to your vehicle while we perform the work. We will then take a reading of your trucks ECU and apply the applicable Toyota TSBs followed by flashing our tune. After the tune is flashed you will take it for a quick test drive.
Gearing and throttle response customizations are included in the tune at no extra cost.
This entire process can be completed in 30-45 minutes, depending on platform.
What other benefits does an OTT tune have?
Dyno tuned and real-world tested, no other tunes add more power, drivability while maintaining reliability than OTT tunes. Tuning with OTT dramatically improves power throughout the rpm range, especially low to mid range, while sharpening shift points and improving throttle response with several throttle maps to choose from depending on your truck and preferences.
Main improvements are:
• Better throttle response
• More torque and horsepower throughout the rpm range, especially low end
• Considerable power gains vs stock
• Smoother, more predictable shifting
• Reduced gear hunting
• Improved towing performance
• After a tune, it feels like you’re driving a new truck – how it should have come from the factory.
Options are also available for:
• Throttle sensitivity preferences (including ECT power throttle setting bump)
• Auto or Manual transmission
• Gear lock tune
• AGM battery charging
• Gearing
What are the different throttle sensitivity preferences available?
• Lite minus
• Lite
• Mild
• Medium
• Spicy
• Super Spicy
Does my Engine/Trans ECU software need to be updated (Toyota Service Bulletin TSB)?
• Yes, your truck will need to have the latest Toyota ECU software and we will update it for free. No need to bribe the dealership.
What can be tuned on my vehicle?
• Tune for aftermarket air intakes. Most require a MAF scale to match fueling ratios to the installed equipment.
• Tune for different gearing ratios (Stock, 4.10, 4.30, 4.88, 5.29)
• Speed limit governor removal
• AGM Battery Tuning (3rd Gen Tacoma only) ($25)
Is tuning detectable by the dealer?
• The tunes do not modify the OEM ID, which means it will always report back as "stock."
Will this void my warranty?
• While we don’t work for Toyota to speak on behalf of warranty status, what we do know is that 1000’s of trucks have been tuned with OTT and we’ve yet to hear reports of warranty being denied. The tune is no different than any other aftermarket part placed on your vehicle. If the dealer believes that the tune has caused / could have caused the warranty issue, the dealer can deny warranty work for that particular issue. We have not heard of any issues with warranty, but want to be 100% transparent. If you have any concerns about warranty, we suggest not tuning your vehicle.
• Clients have had warranty claims approved and completed on tuned vehicles with no issues. In fact, even our own OTT tuned 2023 Tacoma under warranty has had warranty repairs without issue. Please use your best discretion when considering tuning your vehicle.
Will the tune fix my transmission stuttering?
The tune will not fix any stuttering. This is a mechanical issue that can be caused by low transmission fluid, a bad torque converter, or a bad transmission. In some applications there it is a known factory defect that should be diagnosed and repaired by the dealership or an independent shop. Tuning will only exacerbate the stuttering due to the change in shift points.
If you disclose that the transmission has a stutter, we will not tune the vehicle. If you do not disclose a stutter prior to tuning and have complaints afterwards, we will put the truck back to the stock calibration and we will not provide a refund.
How long does it take?
• First we get your vehicle information and get the paperwork out of the way
• The Toyota TSB Updates (if applicable) can take up to 10 minutes
• The OTT flash takes a few quick minutes
• Test drive/ride along will take about 10 minutes
Can my vehicle be tuned back to stock?
• Yes, there is an option to return your vehicle to stock.
Will this work with Pedal Commander?
• Heck no! Throw it in the trash!... or sell it!
• If you have a piggy-back throttle booster of any kind, please have that uninstalled prior to tune meet up.
Methods of payment?
• Cash, Square (Debit/CC), Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App.
Do you offer a money-back guarantee?
• Yes! We’re so confident you’ll love this tune that you can test it for 30 days and if you don’t love the feeling of your truck vs stock we’ll happily refund 100% of your investment. However all we ask is that during those 30 days, you give us a chance to update your tune as you may prefer a different throttle setting to make sure you love it.
Unlike the “other guys”, your investment includes unlimited tune updates at no extra cost to you, not just during the 30 day guarantee period but for the life of your truck.
Where are you located?
