I've always been a technically curious person. Here are some bite-sized projects I've worked on in the past, for school or otherwise, that satisfied some innate scientific curiosity of mine.
Why does a stream of water from the faucet break up into droplets? I was curious about stability analysis of PDEs. So I deriving the linearized fluid equations and did a quick 1D simulation of the Plateau-Rayleigh Instability. [writeup coming soon]
What is entanglement good for? In the spirit of actual research in quantum information theory, I wanted to show that 4-particle Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger entanglement is good for something, even if that something is somewhat arbitrary. So I contrived a scenario in which talk show hosts distribute a 4-particle GHZ state to invited talk show guests to coordinate what topics they will discuss. It's a rather baroque way of enforcing that the talk show will feature an appropriate mix of 1) discussion topics and 2) people talking about those topics. It also is an outrageously long setup to a pun on the phrase "freedom of choice". [writeup coming soon]
