THE TEACHER

I'm Luiza, a dedicated educator with a passion for languages and communication. With a background in Pedagogy and a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, I've spent 12 fulfilling years honing my teaching skills.

Two years ago, I embarked on an exciting journey as a private self-employed teacher when I moved to Montreal, QC. This move not only allowed me to explore a new city but also gave me the opportunity to connect with students on a more personal level.

My goal is to make learning engaging and effective, through lessons tailored to each student's unique needs and learning style.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

My journey in education began at the young age of 17. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working in various settings, from language schools to a bilingual school, and providing private tutoring for kids, teenagers, and adults, and that helped me understand different learners and their needs.

My diverse experience has not only enriched my teaching approach but has also deepened my belief in the transformative power of education. I am truly passionate about how languages can bridge gaps, connecting people and ideas.

Through my work, I strive to inspire a love for learning, create meaningful connections, and empower my students to reach their full potential.

Currently, I am pursuing a Master's Degree in Applie Linguistics with a focus on second language acquisition, curriculum decolonization and translanguaging.

THE APPROACH

I strive to foster a space where learners feel comfortable and confident, enabling us to overcome any learning barriers and focus on effective communication.

I blend various resources, including renowned books from Cambridge and National Geographic, with authentic materials such The New York Times and TedEd articles and videos, incorporating relevant and real-life content to our vocabulary and grammar lessons, making the learning experience more engaging and meaningful through topics that resonate with each of my learners.

In class, we work on developing all four language skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—tailored to each learner's specific needs. I believe in the importance of continuous learning, which is why I regularly assign reading and writing tasks that receive individualized feedback. I also always recommend movies, shows, and podcasts that we can discuss together, further enhancing your language skills and cultural understanding - and making our lessons fun and interesting.
