The Mississippi Democratic Party welcomes people who want to serve their communities and make a difference through public office.
Successful candidates are rarely built overnight. Most begin by getting involved locally: volunteering, organizing, attending county meetings, helping campaigns, serving in party leadership, and building relationships in their communities.
Before considering a run for major office, we strongly encourage prospective candidates to first become active in their local county Democratic Party organization.
Under the Constitution of the Democratic Party of the State of Mississippi, the party is organized through county executive committees, precinct caucuses, district conventions, and local party structures that form the foundation of Democratic organizing across the state.
Running for office , especially statewide or federal office, requires:
long-term community engagement,
fundraising ability,
campaign organization,
volunteer recruitment,
message development,
and broad coalition-building.
Most successful candidates spend years developing these skills through local party and community involvement before seeking higher office.
If you are interested in eventually running for office, your first steps should include:
Attend meetings of your local County Democratic Executive Committee
Sign Up for NDTC training
Volunteer for Democratic campaigns in your area
