Script for Habitat, HomesUnited and Feeding South Florida. Broward County is an amazing place to live, but it has new challenges every year that faces our community. For renters in Broward County, the demand for affordable housing continues to explode. The study showed median rent in South Florida was just under $3,000 per month in March. That's a 57.2% jump from the previous year and by far the largest percentage increase in the nation. In another study in Broward County there were 220 veterans experiencing homelessness, the region had the fifth largest population for its category, according to the report. Currently, Coral Ridge is at the forefront of addressing affordable housing and working in partnership to help the homeless through Hope for South Florida, HomesUnited and Habitat for Humanity. Jesus speaks about the poor and the oppressed, in Luke 14:12-14, He said also to the one who had invited him, ‘When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.’ Last year Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church directly contributed to minististries that fed, housed and cared for families, veterans, homeless, prisoners and those suffering from mental health. Over 175,000 meals were donated. 612 Homeless were provided housing. Over 830 children received housing. Coral Ridge is in the process of completing building 2 new homes in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Broward County. Members in our congregation have independently contributed to the housing issues by donating additional funds for housing to Habitat for Humanity to build more homes. Members of our church have used their own investment properties to provide enough housing to house over 180 people who were homeless over the past year with HomesUnited. Individuals on staff have helped with the feeding of homeless every week to distribute thousands of meals this past year. We have an incredible opportunity to serve the community we live in by helping serve those who are in desperate need. Our commitment to Outreach as a church is more than a campaign, it is a calling. Coral Ridge thanks you for all you have done as a church to care for our community. As your Pastor please get involved in our ministries to serve those who need your help the most.
