Recruitment for the high school 9th-grade cohort begins in the preceding school year with the MCISD’s 8th graders. Beginning in late Fall through the first week of February, MVMECHS staff will be giving presentations to MCISD 8th Grade Jr. High students. MVMECHS has a required parent meeting for all students and parents interested in becoming part of the 9th-grade cohort. At this meeting, the students receive the MVMECHS application that must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the home middle school campus. The deadline for this form to be returned is mid-February. Once all commitment forms are signed and returned, students' names are entered into a weighted lottery pool. The lottery is held in March at Veterans Memorial High School. Throughout the entire recruitment calendar, important deadlines are sent out via the school district’s messenger system in both English and Spanish, announced on a regular basis at each of the middle schools, and advertised on the district’s website and district social media. Every effort is made to have all pertinent information readily available through multiple sources.
