The Giddy Goats

Team #7477

welcome to our new home!

Hello and welcome to the new home of the Giddy Goats website! The Giddy Goats are a robotics team that run out of Mishawaka High School in Northern Indiana. We compete in a competition called the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) with our team number 7477. The majority of our team members have also competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), which you can also find here on our website. Here at Mishawaka, we have freshmen who compete in FTC and then they have the option of joining our FRC team or staying with FTC. Now that you're here, please look around at what our teams, both FRC and FTC, have done, are currently doing, and are planning for the future!

The robotics journey

FIRST Lego League

FIRST Lego League is a robotics competition designed for elementary school students and is played on a table. The students are given a game to compete in and have to create a robot using Lego parts. FLL is a fun way to get children interested in robotics at an early age and student to learn about FIRST's core values. Our teams goal is to have a FLL team at all of our elementary schools in the school system. We know that there are students who love to pay with Legos and who we know would love this game if given the chance to compete.

FIRST Tech Challenge

FIRST Tech Challenge gives older students a game to compete in that is much more challenging than FLL. In this challenge, students are introduced to building a robot with metal pieces instead of Lego pieces. Students have to come up with designs and figure out how to get all of the parts to connect and work together. This game is play on a 12'x12' floor field. As a team, we hope to have FTC teams at our middle school an for freshmen in high school. FTC provides a step up in the FIRST community and teaches students a deeper understanding with problem solving. At our school, the amount of FTC teams we have varies from year to year.

FIRST Robotics Competition

FIRST Robotics Competition is designed for high school students. In this competition, student are given little to no pre-cut parts and have to come up with a design and then complete that design using new skills such as drilling and machining cutting. This competition is a large step up from FTC with playing fields becoming the size of basketball courts, but it gives students a real world experience with the engineering process. FRC is how students finish their robotics career in school before venturing off into the workforce or to college so having the problem solving knowledge and knowing how to use the skills learned through FRC benefits people immensely. Our school has only one FRC team and that is us, the Giddy Goats.
