People think STEM is just an area full of smart kids, but it’s so much more than that. I had the privilege to interview STEM students on what an average day is like.
I asked a 6th grade STEM student if a school day is stressful in STEM. His reply was, “Yes, because we have a lot of projects at the same time and a lot of work that is not my top priority.”
I asked another 6th grade STEM student to rate their zone. She said, “ I rate it an 8, because I like the projects here and talking with my friends. Whenever we do projects I have more opportunities to talk to my friends. I also like the projects because they are really fun and exciting!”
What’s Happening
Something that just recently happened in STEM is a Museum Exhibit Gallery Walk. STEM students have been working for over a month to create a museum exhibit over something that happened in World War II. The STEM students' Social Studies teacher said that he is very proud of the work his students have done and is impressed with the exhibits.

STEM students in Mrs. Fred’s class have been actively at work on the set of the Fine Arts play Junie B. Jones. Every time you walk through the Fab Lab all you will be hearing is the sound of hammers & power saws. You can view their work so far on the Food Court stage. They have created crates with wood, drills, nails, and paint. STEM is a place with hustle and bustle, it surely is a place to be.

Dear Confused Carly,
Well, if your BFF isn't the best to talk to right now, maybe try asking your siblings or parents what you should do. What I can tell you is, I’ve been in your situation before and it’s very difficult to figure out what to do. In the end , you do not want to be in a friendship with someone who doesn’t respect you like you respect them. It can be hard to lose a best friend because when you have to let them go, you remember all the great memories you shared with them. I know you have many friends that you can become close with. I think you could try giving it another chance to talk to her about how you feel, but if that doesn’t work, I say don’t be friends with her anymore. I hope this helps!
Sincerely,
Compass Crew
Dear Curious Callie,
Every school has a principal but the principal is not the only person who makes decisions. The state agency makes big decisions for the schools and the entire MISD district does not offer virtual. The state agency just can’t provide the funding for it. Also the power of working through life with friends you see everyday, who you talk to at lunch, and play games in PE with is not worth forfeiting. Realizing that teachers are more than just a face on a screen hold such power in education and the way interacting with others increases learning makes a big change in kids' lives so much that the school district does not want to make it so that none of that happens.
I asked the principal about her opinion of virtual learning and she said that she doesn’t like virtual school because she likes having face to face conversations with bright intelligent students. She said her favorite thing about virtual school was the way it challenged educators to be creative in the way they teach and how the designers are better now that they have had that experience. All in all we can’t fund virtual education and it wasn’t good for learning so now MISD no longer offers it. If you want to share your opinion click here and fill out this form.
Sincerely,
Compass Crew

Is the Pickle Parade relevant? Some people hate the Pickle Parade because of how much work is put into it. Some people think that it is irrelevant or silly, when others just want people to have fun. I believe the Pickle Parade is very fun and shouldn’t be hated.
Many people work very hard to keep it going each year and we should respect that they are working for us, not themselves. The Pickle Parade has a 5K pickle run that you can do for fun, or for exercise, a pickle party, and a pickle palooza. It also has an amazing parade. If you go to the Pickle Parade, you won’t regret it, I would know, because I’ve been there. The Pickle Parade is always filled with joy. So don’t hate on the Pickle Parade, enjoy it!
Mrs. Peterson is a kind-hearted person and is very funny, too. If you see her in the hall, ask about her bearded dragon!

9- Day of Valor This day commemorates the heroism of Filipinos and American Soldiers when the Japanese occupied the Philippines during World War II.
17- Easter
This day commemorates the resurrection of Jesus. Easter also celebrates the defeat of evil and the victory of good. Christian tradition says that the sins of humanity were paid for by the death of Jesus. His resurrection represents the expectation believers can have in their own relationship with Him.

Do you think you love Cornbread just as much as I do? If so, I think you should try this recipe.
To make this Cornbread you will start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Then add the 2 boxes of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix into a large mixing bowl. Then, you will take a fork and break apart the clumps. After that, you will melt 7 tablespoons of the butter. While your butter is melting, add the 3 eggs into the bowl. Next, you will add 4 tablespoons of sugar into the bowl. Then add in 1 ¼ of a cup of milk. Now you will use the hand mixer to mix it.
After mixing, add in the 7 tablespoons of butter and blend it again. Lastly, either spray down your cake pan or grease the pan with the leftover 1 tablespoon of butter and pour in your mixture. Bake your cornbread at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. After the time is up, stick a toothpick inside and if the batter comes off on the toothpick, let it cook for a little longer. Before slicing, let it cool down a bit then enjoy! In my house, we have made this recipe a lot and it is really good.
