Things to Know

COLLEGE READINESS EXAMS ↩️click

Students who plan to enroll in a Texas public college (2 or 4 year) must show college readiness by taking a placement test before enrolling in any college coursework. Examples are the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), and Texas Higher Education Assessment Test (THEA).  High scores on SAT or ACT may exempt students from taking such placement tests (see QR Code for exemption info).  Please contact Colleges and Universities directly for more information.

SAT and ACT↩️click

** Please note since Covid-19 some colleges and universities have become test optional for the 25-26 admission process. However, more are starting to require an SAT or ACT score. Check with your specific school to see their admission requirements and/ or scholarship requirements. **

The SAT and ACT are standardized tests that almost all 4-year colleges and universities use to help determine admission, placement and scholarships.  Community and Junior Colleges usually do not require either test for admission.  The test can be taken as many times as desired (dates at QR code here).  Registration is done online, usually at least five weeks in advance. If you qualify for free/reduced lunch, you can request a fee waiver with our counseling office secretary, Mrs. Broderick.

*Please report your scores to Lake Ridge High School, CEEB# 444457*

TRANSCRIPTS ↩️ click

Each college will need a transcript to determine admission.  These may be obtained through the registrar’s office, located in the Counseling Center, by using the QR code. Students or parents must request all transcripts in writing with a valid photo ID, and they can be mailed directly to the school or picked up in a sealed envelope. Please allow 48 hours to process request.

TCC DUAL CREDIT TRANSCRIPT↩️ click

When applying for college admission, those who have earned dual credit hours through TCC must request a

transcript from TCC to be sent directly to the college or university where admission is being requested

(see link and QR code). The request cannot be made through LRHS.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION ↩️click

Some college and scholarship applications will require teacher and/or counselor recommendations.  Please give teachers and counselors at least 2 weeks to write these. For teacher recs, the student should provide the letter writer with a resume of activities, honors, and work experience from 9th grade to the present. You can use templates in Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or canva.com to make your resume look more professional. For counselor recs, fill out the letter of rec questionnaire

GPA

You can locate your GPA on Edugence, available through ClassLink. Pay close attention when you report your GPA that you are reporting either weighted or unweighted based on what they are requesting. Rank for graduation honors will be calculated based on your CORE weighted GPA after semester 1 of this year. CORE GPA includes only the grades you earn in the four core areas and your foreign language credits. Most universities request your weighted CUMULATIVE GPA, which includes all grades for all classes and is the GPA on your transcript.

NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER ↩️click

Any athlete who desires to participate in athletics at the NCAA Division I or Division II level must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse.  This needs to be done during the first semester of the senior year.  Information and registration packets can be downloaded from the Eligibility Center.

Students who register via the website must request a transcript using the MISD records request form from the Counseling Center.
