Early childhood education is extremely important to a child’s development and preparation for being a lifelong learner. Children that attend PreK in Montgomery ISD will be exposed to early language, literacy and math experiences while also receiving social-emotional learning opportunities. Students will learn through play, music, movement and exposure to language and numbers to gain self-confidence and increase their ability to development relationships and social skills. Montgomery ISD offers a safe environment with highly qualified teachers and curriculum that leads children on the path to success.
To register for PreK in Montgomery ISD, students must be 4 years old on or before September 1 of that school year.
Texas Education Agency eligibility requirements for state-funded Pre-K are as follows:
Is unable to speak or comprehend the English language
Is eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program
Is homeless
Is the child of an active-duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or the reserves
Is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or the reserves, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty
Is or ever has been in foster care
Is the child of a peace officer, firefighter, or emergency medical responder seriously injured or killed in the line of duty and received the Star of Texas Award
Is the child of a current Montgomery ISD classroom teacher
If you do not qualify for that option, Montgomery ISD does offer a tuition-based Pre-K program.
Montgomery ISD Pre-K teachers are all Texas certified teachers with a specialization in Early Childhood. The early childhood staff in MISD is highly dedicated and extremely qualified to encourage a love of learning and growth in our youngest students, preparing them for a future of excellent education in MISD.
Yes. Montgomery ISD residents and the children of MISD teachers and staff are the only students eligible to attend Pre-K.
No. Children that were enrolled in PreK for the previous school year will automatically be enrolled in Kindergarten at the same campus. Annual updates in the parent portal will be required.
Students in Montgomery ISD elementary schools do have the option to ride an MISD bus to and from school. Children in Pre-K must have a parent present at the afternoon drop off in order to receive their child. If a parent is not present, the child will be returned to his/her campus for a parent/guardian pickup.
Montgomery ISD does offer paid childcare before or after school at elementary locations. There are also many childcare programs in the district that provide care and also provide transportation to and from school. Contact your zoned campus for a list of providers that serve your child’s campus.

To register your child for school in Montgomery ISD, you need the following:
• Original Birth Certificate as proof of child’s identity and age
• Two proofs of residency in Montgomery ISD
• Current utility bill with parent or guardian name and address
• Lease agreement, mortgage or HUD statement, rental agreement or
closing documents
• Child’s Social Security card
• Current Immunization Records
• Parent/Guardian government issued ID
