Mimetik has pioneered the development of an innovative sensor of human activity encapsulated within high quality industrial smart gloves, powered by an exclusively designed AI algorithm. This groundbreaking technology facilitates the translation of intricate hand motions into machine readable directives.
This advancement empowers an unparalleled level of intuitive and seamless interaction with robotic systems. In particular, the highly advanced Spot robot by Boston Dynamics emerges as an exceptional candidate for executing specified tasks through straightforward hand gestures.
This manual serves as an essential guide for users seeking to engage with Spot by issuing commands through gestures. The operational control of Spot is intricately linked to these gestures, each corresponding to specific commands.
Intuitive Gesture Control
The design of the robot control application is aimed to provide the user with seamless interaction. This is achieved through the development of a sophisticated AI algorithm, meticulously designed to accurately detect and interpret hand movements, effectively translation them into the precise commands anticipated by Spot.
No worries, you do not have to guess what gestures to use. Every gesture is described below separately.
⏩ Two hands gesture
With this gesture the user gets into Spot Command Mode. Only in this mode hand movements are tracked and translated as commands to Spot.
ℹ All your hand movements are evaluated as a potential command to Spot at Command Mode.
⏩ Right hand gesture
This gesture takes the user out of Command Mode. Spot stops reacting hand gestures and the user freely proceeds other tasks.
ℹ The timeout in between Lay Down and Exit Command Mode gestures is 3 seconds. If this time is exceeded, Spot sits and awaits for the Get Up command.
⏩ Right hand gesture
With this gesture Spot lays down and waits for the Get up command.
ℹ Pinky, ring and middle fingers are bent while the index finger points to the ground.
⏩ Right hand gesture
Get up command can be given when Spot is laying down. After this command, Spot stands up and waits for further commands.
ℹ This gesture is only relevant when Spot is laying down.
⏩ Left hand gesture
This gesture gives a command to Spot to move forward with a speed of 0.5m/s.
ℹ Pinky, ring, middle, and index fingers are bent slightly. Straight fingers stops the movement, further bending the fingers give Go Forward Fast command.
⏩ Left hand gesture
This gesture gives the command to Spot to move forward with an increased speed of 1.2m/s.
ℹ Pinky, ring, middle, and index fingers are bent completely. Straight fingers stops the movement, further slightly bed fingers give Go Forward Slowly command.
⏩ Left hand gesture
With this gesture, Spot moves backward with a speed of 0.5m/s.
ℹ First move your hand up then form the gesture. Pinky, ring, middle, and index fingers are bent completely and thumb points backwards.
⏩ Right hand gesture
This gesture commands Spot to turn right.
ℹ Spot turns right for as long as the right hand stays in this position.
⏩ Right hand gesture
This gesture commands Spot to turn left.
ℹ Spot turns left for as long as the right hand stays in this position.
⏩ Right hand gesture
The gesture commands Spot to move right. Spot moves right for as long as this is executed.
ℹ Swipe your hand to the right. It is the curvy nature of the gesture that commands Spot to move right.
⏩ Right hand gesture
The gesture commands Spot to move left. Spot moves left for as long as this is executed.
ℹ Swipe your hand to the left. It is the curvy nature of the gesture that commands Spot to move left.
⏩ Right hand gesture
With this gesture, Spot’s upper body follows the orientation of the hand in the pitch plane.
ℹ The motors of the legs prevent the smooth tracking of the exact angle.
⏩ Right hand gesture
This gesture gives Spot the command to take a photo.
ℹ This gesture is allowed only in Tilt on Pitch Angle Mode.
Spot provides an emergency stop functionality “E-Stop” to prevent accidents. When this command is given, Spot immediately lays down to the ground. This functionality is enabled as an on screen button. Click “STOP” to send Spot “E-Stop” command.
