Greetings Townsend Street School Families-
I am Dr. Deanna Burton, the new principal of Townsend Street School. I am extremely excited and energized to serve as the leader of such an awesome school with talented staff, eager students, supportive families and an engaged community.
A little about me:
I graduated from Alverno College with my Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications and Secondary Education; my education journey continued at Cardinal Stritch University where I graduated with a Master of Science in Curriculum Development and Educational Leadership. Finally, I earned my Doctoral Degree from Cardinal Stritch as well, where I studied Educational Leadership. My dissertation topic was: African American Males and College Retention.
I started my career as an English Teacher in MPS, I’ve been a principal in the Oconomowoc Area School District, and School District of Waukesha. One of the warmest experiences yet, that I have had on my career journey is coming back home to my roots in MPS as the principal of Townsend Street School.
In my recent tours, visiting classrooms at Townsend, I observed a family of engaged learners and caring staff. I look forward to getting to know each learner and their families personally. I hope to maintain an environment of respect, engagement and academic excellence for all learners. In reaching these goals, Townsend staff will need your input and support, which we will reciprocate.
What you can expect from me:
You can expect me to care for the well-being of your children, respectful interactions, an open line of communication from school to home, transparency in instructional practices and the best education that we can offer your children.
In closing, I want to personally thank you for choosing Townsend Street School for your child to learn and grow academically and socially. Our staff is a phone call away!
We will begin enrollment for the 2022-23 school year soon, so spread the word to your neighbors, family and friends about the great work that Townsend Street School is doing and the exceptional learning environment where all students matter!
With sincere gratitude,
Dr. Deanna Burton
