Team Leader
Why I Serve:
I serve to be a role model to young black girls to look up to and I serve to provide the same support and care I was given while attending MPS schooling and to give back to my community and make my family proud.
Team Leader
Why I Serve:
I serve to continue a proud tradition of national service getting things done for our country. I serve because I believe that our students can succeed on their own, but they don't need to do it alone. I serve to support students, teachers, and AmeriCorps Members in reaching their goals and performing to the best of their own abilities. I serve to help other people see the value in service and what it can mean for themselves and for their community, and I serve to make our nation and our world a better place for everybody.
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 3rd Grade Bilingual
Why I Serve:
I believe every single student has the ability to become successful, given the opportunity. The problem is, that in our world, children are denied of a fair opportunity if any aspect of their identity is deemed unfavorable. The idea that a group of determined individuals can come together to change this system is a very beautiful thing. I serve because I am committed to make this change, in order to see all of our young scholars prosper.
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 3rd Grade Monolingual
Why I Serve:
I want to be able to help children and be a role model. When I was in school I didn't have much support so I want to give to children what I didn't have in school. Being able to give them knowledge.
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 4th Grade Bilingual
Why I Serve:
I serve because I believe community fills the gaps that systems cannot, and I want to ensure no student falls through the cracks or gets left behind. Each student has a valuable perspective and unique life experience. I believe we, as City Year, have the ability and opportunity to uplift those voices by supporting students in reaching their full potential.
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 4th Grade Monolingual
Why I Serve:
One of the best things any child could have in their life is a dependable mentor. As mentors have helped me to where I have gotten today, I serve to be a mentor to inspire and create a passion for learning. I serve to fight the widening achievement gap and to give the individualized attention children need to thrive and succeed. With individualized attention and nurturing life skills, I am proud to be a part of an organization creating future leaders.
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 5th Grade Bilingual
Why I Serve:
I serve because I believe that every student deserves an excellent education. They deserve access to resources and support and at City Year, that is guaranteed. I would not be where I am today without the mentors that I met during my schooling. I serve because all students should be able to thrive and succeed at what they want to do.
Second Year AmeriCorps Member - 5th Grade Monolingual
Why I Serve:
As a second year, I serve because I want to be the light in the next generations life. I serve to show students and teachers that they have the support they need, when they need. I serve as a second year, because there is a thing called, NO STUDENTS LEFT BEHIND AND I BELIEVE IN THAT!

Why I Serve:
I choose to serve because I believe children deserve every advantage they can get for them to succeed. I serve to make better opportunities for youth in need, to be that extra support, to give that extra shove the might need to get them going in the right direction. First Year AmeriCorps Member - 7th Grade BIlingual
Why I Serve:
I serve because I believe I received an excellent education and would like to be part of the solution towards education inequality in the public school system.
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 7th Grade Bilingual
Why I Serve:
I serve to support students in reaching their full potential and to provide the necessary tools for them to be successful. Growing up It was difficult for me to learn in school, to stand up and speak and to be myself. I want students to be able to fully learn and understand what they are being taught, to stand up and speak, and most importantly to be themselves. That is why I serve.
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 7th Grade Monolingual
Why I Serve:
I serve because all students are entitled to an excellent education, regardless of their zip code, economic status, or skin color. I recognize that I would be nowhere in my life without the educators who spent long hours fostering my love of learning. If I can be that person for even one student at Alexander Mitchell, my year of service will have been more than worth it.
I also serve because I love the city of Milwaukee, and I want to do my part to help make it an excellent place to grow up for all children.
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 8th Grade Bilingual
Why I Serve:
I serve because I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed (in their own definition of success!) and that starts at a young age. As mentors, we can help students build confidence and provide them with the tools and inspiration they need to reach their full potential despite the challenges and barriers they may face. We can ultimately work together to help dismantle these barriers and create opportunity for all students!
First Year AmeriCorps Member - 8th Grade Monolingual
Why I Serve:
I am choosing to give a year of service as my passion is to not only educate, but teach those who are our future. All individuals have their own strengths, weaknesses, talents, and skills that need to be shone upon, illuminating the best of every single person, making them more confident and robust. Serving will give me the opportunity to be a role model where I am able to witness the growth not only upon the youth and those who cross our paths, but to see how I blossom into a better me.
