Start College Now
“Start College Now” will allow high school students the opportunity to take college courses at Wisconsin Technical Colleges (i.e. Milwaukee Area Technical College). Statute 38.12 (14) lays out all the aspects of the program. Students looking to take courses in the fall semester must turn in the application by March 1st . For spring semester courses the same application is used; however; the due date is October 1st annually. In addition, students wishing to take courses in the summer must submit an application to MPS by February 1, 2026.
Since these deadlines are written into state statute, there are absolutely no extensions or exceptions.
When helping students find the appropriate course, please reach out to the career prep coordinator at the technical college in your high school district to help with planning. Once the course is approved by the high school’s board, the specific section and modality can be secured. For additional information, please visit the Start College Now page.

Talk with your high school counselor to see if it’s a good fit for you. They will consider how the class aligns with academic plans and whether you meet the prerequisite for taking a college-level class. Materials must be submitted by October 1st for spring and March 1st for fall. Students may apply for MATC in the summer, but cost is not covered through SCN. Please visit college site for summer restrictions.
Request information from the technical college where you’d like to take classes.
Obtain a Start College Now application from your high school counselor or download it from the link below.
Submit your completed form to your school officials by the designated due date.
Follow the application or registration requirements at the campus or program you’d like to take classes with.
You must complete an application for the college you wish to attend.
Make sure to submit any required documentation (i.e. parent endorsement form along with any prerequisite documentation).
Check your email frequently for updates and next steps.
You must obtain approval from Milwaukee Public Schools prior to taking courses.
Enroll in your class.
