Last Saturday we had an arctic blast coming from the north. Temperatures dropped, with a low of 5℉ and extraordinary wind chills made it feel like -14℉! Then, on Sunday, we had a giant snow storm bringing in 18 inches of snow, with 5 and half inches on Monday.
“The storm this past Sunday and Monday was the 3rd greatest snow storm for the month of January and was the 10th greatest snowstorm all-time going back to 1885,” said Matthew Douglas, Chief Weather Observer at the Blue Hill Observatory.
It is a very rare thing that an arctic blast hits at the same time as a colossal snow storm like this. The snow storm brought the most snow for the Boston area in 4 years. Kids did not have school on Monday and Tuesday because of the storm at Glover and many other schools. Meanwhile the storm affected many places across the country including Denver (Let’s go Patriots!). Lots of people were out shoveling on Monday. Some kids probably had a chill day because of the snow. Other kids built snowmen and made snow angels. This weekend many grocery stores were packed with people who were trying to stalk up on food. Make sure to get enough food for a month!
“As excited as the kids are for the snow day, the teachers are too!” Said Mrs. McDavitt, Glover School principal. “After all these years, when I get the text from the Superintendent that school is canceled, I go right back to being a little kid, sledding and drinking hot cocoa! I know we won’t love it in June but right now, there’s something magical about a snow day!”
Everyone was hyped about the snow day, teachers included! In all Milton got 23 and a half inches of snow! I hope everyone had a fun time in the snow storm!
