Robotics at MHS is affiliated with FIRST, a global organization dedicated to promoting STEM. FIRST creates competitive formats structured around designing, engineering, building, and programming a robot to tackle a yearly challenge as a team. FIRST has three programs, of which Static is involved in FIRST Tech Challenge.

One of three programs, First Tech Challenge works with grades 7 through 12. It involves over 11,000 active and participating teams every year that compete with their own robots that are built for the theme of that season. This year's theme is called BioBuzz.
