LITERATURE TO FILM ADAPTATION

LITERATURE TO FILM ADAPTATION Honors 13407 2.5 credits

Our best films spring from powerful pieces of literature. In this course, students analyze various forms of literature (novels, poetry, and short stories) and then study how literature is adapted for film. Students analyze literary works for theme, symbolism, characterization and other literary elements and determine how well these concepts transfer to the visual medium of film. Students will also learn the vocabulary of film and discuss its connections to the elements of literature. This course will examine artistic choices made by authors and directors, and students will interpret and judge the effectiveness and aesthetic value of both forms. Continued skill development in composition, speaking, vocabulary, language, and literary and non-fiction studies are essential components of this course.
