SPORTS AND SOCIETY Honors 13408 2.5 credits

With a focus on the topic of basketball, this course will provide students opportunities to experiment with both journalistic and persuasive forms of writing through research-based inquiries. Students will write argumentatively on a variety of sport topics–ranging from tragic “What ifs?” to how athletes transcend both the court and field as lead frontrunners for social change. Students will examine autobiographies, non-fiction articles and short stories. The class will also focus on collaborative group discussion through seminar methods. Continued skill development in speaking, writing, literacy and non-fiction studies are essential components of this course.
