Schoology or skyward?

Confused about the difference between Schoology and Skyward? Check out this video to better understand how to access and understand your student's standards-based grade.

Schoology is the Learning Management System that teachers often use to share resources, assign homework, and give assessments to students. This is the main app your student will use. Although Schoology is mostly meant for students to use, many families find it helpful to create a parent account to keep track of their student's progress. The links below will help you navigate Schoology if you choose to make a parent account or just use your student's account.

*Note: there is a mobile app and a website version. If you create an account, you can access it on either version.

Skyward is the official gradebook at MMS. You can check your students's grades, find missing assignments, locate schedules, and access teacher information. We strongly encourage families to create a Skyward Family Access account and check it regularly to keep up with their student's academics. The links below will help you navigate Skyward.

*Note: there is a mobile app and a website version. If you create an account, you can access it on either version.

How do i get a parent account for schoology/skyward?

Signing up for a parent/guardian account with Schoology and/or Skyward is easy!

Where can I find my student’s current grades?

Official grades can be found in Skyward. Teachers enter assignments or assessments as "Events" in Skyward using the standards-based grading proficiencies (E / M / AP / BE). Although Schoology does have a gradebook, those are not official as not all items graded in Schoology are posted as official events in Skyward. To learn how to access and understand the Skyward gradebook, please check out this flyer: Understanding Skyward Family Access Flyer.

How do I know if my student has missing work?

Missing work can be found in Skyward. Teachers will enter missing work in Skyward using the code "NS" which stands for "Not Submitted." To learn how to access and understand the Skyward gradebook, please check out this flyer: Understanding Skyward Family Access Flyer.

It is also possible for parents/guardians to catch missing work before grades are entered into Skyward by turning on a Schoology feature to get notified every time your student has a missing submission in Schoology. Here's how:

-Log onto your Schoology Parent Account (if you don't have one, see directions by clicking here.

-Click on "Account Settings."

-Select "Notifications" and then select "YES" next to "Course Materials Overdue."

-Choose "Save Changes."

How can i find out what my student has for homework?

All homework can be found in your student's Schoology Calendar. Teachers will post their daily agendas for students to see in the Schoology Calendar. Here's how to find the calendar:

-Schoology App: Click on the menu icon (three lines in the upper left) and select "Calendar"

-Schoology Website: Click on the calendar icon located on the right side of the top toolbar.

Agendas should include what was done in class that day and if the student has any homework. Any digital materials that students need should be in their course materials in Schoology as well. Here is quick guide to understanding the Schoology calendar: Schoology Calendar Guide.

what can i do if my student's ipad is not working?

If your student's iPad is not working, there are a few tricks you can try before receiving assistance from our technology department. Try these troubleshooting tricks first:

  • Close out of any open app (double click the home button and swipe "up" for all apps that are open)

  • If it's an internet issue, turn the WiFi off on your student's device for 30 seconds and turn on again

  • Power the iPad down for several minutes and turn back on

  • Last resort - force the iPad to restart (hold down the home button and power button at the same time until the screen goes black AND the white Apple logo reappears)

If none of these work, please have your student contact a tech-savvy teacher first, and if they cannot help, reach out to our technology department at (608) 868-9570 or email helpdesk@milton.k12.wi.us

My student is having trouble logging in. What do i do?

If your student is having trouble logging in to Schoology or Skyward, there are a few suggestions we can make to help you!

Schoology Login Trouble

  • Make sure they are entering their username WITHOUT the "@milton.k12.wi.us" after it

  • Ensure they selected the correct school district in WI (School District of Milton - has a blue dot by it)

  • Try logging in through the app and the website to see if one works vs. the other

  • If using the website, ensure they are using the Milton link and not just Googling "Schoology"

Skyward Login Trouble

  • Make sure they are entering their username WITHOUT the "@milton.k12.wi.us" after it

  • If the app isn't allowing them to login, use the website instead

  • Ensure they are using the Milton link for Skyward and not just Googling "Skyward"

If none of these work, please have your student contact a tech-savvy teacher first, and if they cannot help, reach out to our technology department at (608) 868-9570 or email helpdesk@milton.k12.wi.us

How can i block websites on my student's device?

-When Milton students are in school buildings, there are strict WiFi restrictions put into place through our internet service. However, this changes when a student is no longer using our building internet. If you would like to set up WiFi restrictions within your own home, please contact your internet provider for assistance on how to set this.

-If you would like to discuss setting up other restrictions on your student's iPad, please send an email to Ms. Tara Czerwinski, MMS Principal, outlining the specific sites you would like blocked and the reason why. You can reach her at czerwinskit@milton.k12.wi.us

How can I read teacher comments in skyward?

Teachers will sometimes leave comments on specific event grades posted in Skyward. In order to locate and read those comments, please see this handout for step-by-step directions: Understanding Skyward Family Access Flyer.
