M cubed is a team competition.
Teams consist of 4-6 students in grades 6-8
There are 2-3 rounds; Team, Guts and Theme/Estimation
The Team Round is a 12-5-problem, 30-45-minute test where all team members work together. The point weights for each problem are indicated on the contest paper.
The Guts Round is a 40-50-minute team event with 24-30 short-answer questions of varying difficulty and point values. Problems are split into sets of 3, and each team assigns a runner who must bring the answers to the problem station and pick up the next set of 3.
New for M cubed 3, we are introducing an Estimation Round - a 10-20-minute round with 6-10 estimation questions. Teams score 5 points for an exact answer and 1-4 points for answers within 5, 10, 25, and 50% of the correct answer.
